The largest exhibition
in the history of Mika Ninagawa
in the Kansai region
Reality and Dreamscape.
In Kyoto, where you can feel the flow of time and life
Mika Ninagawa with EiM takes on the next theme.
The crimson-tinted entrance of higanbana(cluster amaryllis),
Light by the sparkle of life,
And then, we advance into the abyss.
What is at the end of all this?
Inspired by the streets of Kyoto,
A journey through the abyss of the otherworldly world.
Beginning with a space that seems to exude the artist's inner world
Through this journey, the viewer looks into his or her own inner world.
The work changes in hundreds of ways.
In this chaotic world we live in, we are reminded of our own existence,
which we tend to lose sight of.
The certainty of our own existence, which we tend to lose sight of.
Lost from reality, to the other world.
As if you were the main character,
reading through your own story of 10 episodes
and invites you to a dreamlike picture scroll experience.

Mika Ninagawa's visual expression clearly evolves with each exhibition. Aside from her intense passion for evolution, where is she headed to evolve along with her brilliant expression?
Here in Kyoto, a city that has long been an incubator for various traditional cultures, viewers will witness a new "twilight" story of "this shore" and "the other shore”.
We are pleased to present the exhibition "Light of the beyond, Shadows of this world" at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art in Kyoto, a place where culture and history intersect.
The abyss that visitors will tour is a space that are both reflective of the landscapes within all our hearts and yet something no one has ever seen before—a space designed to awaken such sensations.
In the fluctuation of time, light and shadow clad in diverse colors will appear. The experience of the intersection of life and death, transience and universality, resignation and hope, is a journey through the mind.
We hope this exhibition transcends mere visual beauty to become an unforgettable experience that touches upon themes of existence and perspectives on life and death.
Over the past few years, I have been dedicating myself even more intensely to creating my artwork and have had the opportunity to present several large-scale exhibitions. Among these, being able to exhibit at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art is a significant milestone for me.
The themes "fiction and reality," "this side and that side," and "light and shadow" have been recurring concepts in my works. Once again, we aim to present an exhibition that will give visitors the experience of crossing boundaries, witnessing the blurring and merging of thresholds, and embarking on a deep journey within themselves.
Together with the creative team EiM, I am striving to craft an evolved exhibition that feels like opening a new door. We are working tirelessly to bring this vision to life.
This immersive experience invites you to dive deeper into your inner self and step through a new doorway. I warmly invite you to come and experience it for yourself.
