Photographer, Film Director

Over the past few years, I have been dedicating myself even more intensely to creating my artwork and have had the opportunity to present several large-scale exhibitions. Among these, being able to exhibit at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art is a significant milestone for me.

The themes "fiction and reality," "this side and that side," and "light and shadow" have been recurring concepts in my works. Once again, we aim to present an exhibition that will give visitors the experience of crossing boundaries, witnessing the blurring and merging of thresholds, and embarking on a deep journey within themselves.
Together with the creative team EiM, I am striving to craft an evolved exhibition that feels like opening a new door. We are working tirelessly to bring this vision to life.
This immersive experience invites you to dive deeper into your inner self and step through a new doorway. I warmly invite you to come and experience it for yourself.

Mika NINAGAWA works predominantly in photography, but is also involved in movies, videos and spatial installations. She is also a part of the creative team “EiM”.

Winner of numerous awards including the Kimura Ihei Photography Award, she published a book of her photographs with Rizzoli N.Y. in 2010. She has directed five feature films, including Helter Skelter (2012) and Diner (2019), and the Netflix original drama FOLLOWERS (2020).
She has published more than 120 books of photographs, held more than 150 solo exhibitions, and participated in more than 130 group exhibitions. She continuously presents her work in Japan and abroad.
Her solo exhibition Mika Ninagawa: Eternity in a Moment (TOKYO NODE, December 2023-February 2024) attracted 250,000 visitors.
Her latest book of photographs is titled Eternity in a Moment.

We are pleased to present the exhibition "Light of the beyond, Shadows of this world" at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art in Kyoto, a place where culture and history intersect.
The abyss that visitors will tour is a space that are both reflective of the landscapes within all our hearts and yet something no one has ever seen before—a space designed to awaken such sensations.
In the fluctuation of time, light and shadow clad in diverse colors will appear. The experience of the intersection of life and death, transience and universality, resignation and hope, is a journey through the mind.
We hope this exhibition transcends mere visual beauty to become an unforgettable experience that touches upon themes of existence and perspectives on life and death.

Hiroaki Miyata’s research activities are centered on using data science and other sciences to challenge social change and contribute to bettering reality. He is also an executive director of EiM, a creative team he formed with Mika Ninagawa and ENZO in 2022. At the same time, Miyata will work with various stakeholders, including not only academia, but also government, economic organizations, NPOs, and businesses, to create a new social vision. One of the social visions Miyata is co-creating is a "resonant society," in which life resonates together to create a diverse society, and each individual shines brightly as they experience this world together.
